  • RAL Color Chart established a common color language that helped eliminate misunderstandings when matching colors.  It has grown over the years and continues to serve and define colors used in architecture, manufacturing, construction, road safety and signs, and commercial industry.
  • RAL is mainly used for varnish, powder coatings, and industrial finishes.  Originally consisting of 40 colors, the RAL Color Chart offers over 2000 color choices.

US Government Federal Standard 595 Paint Colors Federal Standards Color Chart

  • The Federal Standard 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The colors are used by US Government agencies, branches, and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, industrial urethanes and epoxies, Direct to Metal, and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification, and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin, and Boeing. For example, we provide paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.

Bureau of Land Management - Standard Environmental Colors

  • The Standard Environmental Colors was developed to assist with color selection to minimize the visual contrast of a facility in the landscape.
  • In order to ensure color accuracy, use an original color chart to match paint. When matching the color chip, request the paint company to have their computer scan set on "natural light." Compare the new paint sample to the color chip under indirect natural sunlight. Use semi-gloss paint, where appropriate, to enhance durability yet reduce reflectivity. Select colors a shade or two darker than the surrounding landscape to account for natural shadows, normal fading, and weathering.
